Minutes of May 21, 2008 Education Meeting Follow-up: There are still some teacher appreciation books, if there are teachers who did not get one. The After School Program will reregister in January next year, so children who did not register for the first half of the year can have a chance to get in for the second half of the year. Wally talked about having an orientation for new Sunday School Teachers where they could bring their materials in and Jan or Wally could help them go through the materials, to help them get orientated with the way the curriculum works. Laurie and Kim reported that had talked with Pastor Dave, about the upcoming confirmation year. We talked about the possibility of keeping the confirmation youth on the main level floor but in rooms, that can become theirs, they need to be kept on the main floor due to wheelchair use. We talked about he possibility of making the bottom floor wheel chair accessible from the outside. Before next year Sunday School year starts we will need to look at Classrooms, and where would be the best place for each of the age levels of children. Learn and Play Learn and Play would like teachers to leave the materials that are used from the daycare out on the tables so they know what materials need to be washed. Wally talked about the possibility of having one wall be for Sunday School Stuff to hang up, and that gets to be left up and not taken down during the week. We also talked about that those rooms are now being videotaped. Memorial Committee Asking: VBS plans: We talked about handing in all receipts and making sure we are using what is budgeted. We also t talked about the need to find some new directions for next year. WE also talked about possibly having VBS during the week next year instead of the weekend. We talked about sending a note home with Sunday School parents in January asking for volunteers for directing, and seeing when parents would rather have VBS, so that the parent input is taken into account. Summer Family Events: The church will have A Pool Party Clean Sunday School rooms, and the art room. We talked about cleaning out the superintendent office and getting rid of some of the no value books and resources in that closet. Sunday School Teacher Recruitment It was suggested that we have the office send out an e-mail to all the current teachers asking them if they would be willing to teach again. Along with asking them if they had any comments or concerns of the way Sunday School was this year. The After School program also needs more help. 3rd Grade Bibles and Confirmation bibles. As an education committee we looked into getting bibles for second graders this year as well as the third graders. We would like to shift to Second graders getting bibles, because they start to look up bible verses during Sunday school in them, and the bibles they get at Three year olds are storybooks. We also talked about getting a curriculum for the second graders to use to teach them how to look up things in the bible. Next Meeting dates June 18 at 6:30 August 27 at 7:30 We have changed the meeting date to July 2nd at 7:30, due to many people being gone on the 18th. September 7 will be the first day of Sunday School. September 17, will be the first day for AFSP. We talked about 6th graders needing different curriculum then the Live Big. |
