Questions to Ponder:
  1. Who, in our congregation or community, represents the spirit of the waiting father? Who embodies this “radical hospitality”?
  2. Who are the strangers in our midst? Who are the prodigal sons and daughters making the journey home?

Next Week: “The School of the Soul”: The Lesson of the Wilderness Exodus 16

We will probably be staying in a church with the requirement that you BYOB (Bring Your Own Bed). Noon Lunches are provided in Oakville, but we will be in charge of our own meals otherwise. Work skills are not necessary, but definitely helpful. If you have questions and/or would like to join the team, please contact Denise Hartford: hartford@goldfieldaccess.net or 604-1327.

Lenten Spiritual Growth Study

“Bread in the Wilderness”

Christians know that we often live in the wilderness – a place of difficulty and even danger. During this Lenten season, as we remember the story of God’s faithfulness, and especially the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, we are given strength for life’s journey, “bread” to sustain us through the wilderness and beyond.
Lessons introduced with a sermon for group and individual reflection.
Themes:
March 14, “The School of the Soul” The Lesson of the Wilderness.
March 21, “I was Hungry and You Gave Me Food” The Lesson of the Poor.
March 28 (Palm Sunday) “This is My Body, Broken For You” The Lesson of the Passover.
April 4 (Easter) “Come and Have Breakfast” The Lesson of the Risen Christ among Us.
April 11, “You Cannot Do it Alone” The Lesson of Life after Lent and Easter.

"Acres of Giving: Harvest an Acre, Feed the People."

Faith United Methodist Church is challenging our members to donate the equivalent of 20 acre of soybeans or corn in the coming year. We challenge farmers to donate one acre if you are a farm family to our new “acres of giving” program. If you are not a farmer, we challenge you to donate the cost of producing an acre and you can be matched with a farmer – for your own acre. Our plans are to have this be an educational opportunity for our church family too. We will have a Spring Blessing Service, and Fall Harvest Service and Meal out at one of our producer’s farm, where young and old alike can see the blessings of God through the farmer’s stewardship of the land.   Your gift can be utilized in many ways, but we suggest one of the following.

I want my gift to go to: Missions Building Repairs General Church Expenses

       Other :_________

I would like to donate cash for one Acre of Crop Production or for a percentage of the production on one acre for this project:

$50 $100 $200  Other Amount:_________

There will be more on cost of production and informational things in the next months.

Take the challenge and make your reservation by March 30th.

The Rev. David Weesner will become Superintendent of the Central District The appointment, announced by Bishop Julius Calvin Trimble, Resident Bishop of the Iowa Area, will become effective July 1, 2010.

“Dave Weesner brings the evangelical passion for Christ and the love of reaching out beyond the walls of the church that is needed at this time of our witness in Iowa,” Bishop Trimble noted. “Dave’s leadership in the greater Council Bluffs area includes collaborative involvement with both clergy and laity and leading the Salem United Methodist Church in outreach to the marginalized. He is an excellent preacher and teacher. Dave, and his wife Cheryl, will be involved in the 2010 UMW School of Christian Mission. I believe he is ‘unapologetically Christian and unashamedly United Methodist.’ He brings the leadership skills and energy needed for the work as a Conference Superintendent. I am pleased that after prayerful reflection with his family he accepted my invitation.”

Reacting to the appointment, Weesner said, ”I’m excited about the possibilities of working with the churches and people of the Central District. I’m looking forward supporting and providing leadership for new and exciting ministries on the District, and beyond. I’m filled with hope about what God has done and will do as we reach out, together, in concerned service to the world.”

Rev. Weesner is currently the Senior Pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, a position he has held for ten years. Prior to that appointment he was Pastor of Belle Plaine, Associate Pastor for Faith: Humboldt-Rutland-Gilmore City-Bradgate and the Corydon Parish. He was ordained as an Elder and granted Full Membership in the Annual Conference in 1992. He succeeds the Rev. Dr. Wesley S. K. Daniel, who has served as the Central District Superintendent for the past six years and will be appointed to the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, effective July 1.

Good Morning!

This is God,
I will be handling all
of your problems today.
I will not need your help.

So, relax and have a
Great Day!
